On October 3rd 2013, 368 people lost their lives in a shipwreck off the island of Lampedusa. Since 2016, October 3rd has become the Day of Remembrance and Hospitality in Italy, a day that commemorates all the victims of immigration and promotes awareness- raising initiatives. In these past 8 years more than 20.000 people have lost their lives in the Mediterranean.
In this context, the school “Guicciardini”in Rome has commemorated the day by planting a tree as a symbol of re birth and memory. The students have shared their thoghts around the planted tree and have created a video that can be foun on YouTube in order to listen to them.
GIORNATA DELL’ACCOGLIENZA DEI MIGRANTI E RIFUGIATI
Il 3 ottobre 2013, 368 persone hanno perso la vita in un naufragio al largo dell’isola di Lampedusa. Dal 2016 il 3 ottobre si celebra la Giornata della Memoria e dell’Accoglienza, per commemorare tutte le vittime dell’immigrazione e promuovere iniziative di sensibilizzazione. In questi ultimi otto anni infatti, più di 20.000 persone hanno perso la vita nel Mediterraneo.
In questo contesto, l’Istituto Comprensivo Guicciardini di Roma ha celebrato la giornata piantando un albero nel cortile della scuola come simbolo di memoria e rinascita. Gli studenti delle sei classi terze hanno condiviso le loro riflessioni intorno all’albero e hanno creato un video dell’iniziativa su YouTube.
