Diversity is an added value

 

“Free to leave, free to stay”, written by Carola Romani, is an imaginative story about humanity and the value of its diversity. It begins with the imaginary trial of “Yahweh, Father of the Christian, Jewish and Muslim people,” followed with trepidation by the whole world. Yahweh defends Himself against the charge of high treason against mankind for having scattered humans around the earth without a language to understand each other.

 

Here is an excerpt from the story:

 

“One thing is certain: you are not here on Earth to survive, but to fully realise your humanity; you fear diversity, you avoid it and devalue it because you are not yet aware of the great value it represents for the future of humanity. Humanity rises not “in spite of” diversity but “thanks” to it, because only in total respect for differences can democratic values and freedom be realised.”

Writing Does Not Go Into Exile – Centro Astalli’s literary contest

 

Thousands of high school students from 15 Italian cities participated in Centro Astalli – JRS Italy’s writing contest “La scrittura non va in esilio” (Writing Does Not Go Into Exile), part of the educational project CHANGE.

 

The expert jury, made up of writers, journalists, and representatives of international organisations chose the winners: all young students, who wrote about migration from different perspectives.

La diversitá é un valore

“Liberi di partire, liberi di restare”, scritto da Carola Romani, è un fantasioso estratto sull’umanità e sul valore della sua diversità. La storia inizia con il processo immaginario a “Yahweh, padre del popolo cristiano, ebreo e musulmano”, seguito con trepidazione dal mondo intero. Yahweh si difende dall’accusa di alto tradimento contro l’umanità per aver sparpagliato gli uomini sulla terra senza una linguaper capirsi.

 

Qui un estratto della storia:

 

“Una cosa è certa: voi non siete qui sulla Terra per sopravvivere, ma per realizzare pienamente la vostra umanità; voi temete la diversità, la evitate e la svalutate perché non siete ancora consapevoli del grandissimo valore che essa rappresenta per il futuro dell’umanità. L’umanità si eleva non “malgrado” la diversità ma “grazie” ad essa, perché solo nel totale rispetto delle differenze si realizzano i valori democratici e la libertà. “

“La scrittura non va in esilio” – Il concorso letterario del Centro Astalli

 

Migliaia di studenti delle scuole superiori di 15 città italiane hanno partecipato al concorso “La scrittura non va in esilio” organizzato dal Centro Astalli come parte del progetto educativo CHANGE.

 

La giuria di esperti, composta da scrittori, giornalisti e rappresentanti di organizzazioni internazionali, ha scelto i vincitori, tutti giovani studenti che hanno scritto di migrazione da diverse prospettive.
