S., a refugee from Cameroon, had a great surprise during her encounter with a group of young teenagers this week. Her story is neither easy to tell, nor easy to listen to. The cultural and social consequences of being a woman, in some countries, are among the main factors leading to forced displacement. However, most of the stories that students are familiar with have to do with the lives of men. For this reason, S. continues to go to different schools in order to talk about the persecution and abuse that she suffered, transmitting a message of strength and positivity, especially to young girls.
This week, when the online encounter was coming to an end, a student put a message she had written on a piece of paper in front of the webcam. It said “Thank you”. One by one all the students of the class started doing the same thing. It was very special and moving for all.

S., rifugiata dal Camerun, ha ricevuto una grande sorpresa da un gruppo di studenti di un liceo della provincia di Roma in occasione di un incontro del progetto Finestre/CHANGE. La sua storia non è facile da raccontare nè facile da ascoltare per degli adolescenti. Le conseguenze culturali e sociali dell’essere donna in alcuni Paesi sono tra le principali cause della migrazione forzata. La maggior parte delle storie che gli studenti conoscono, riguardano la vita di uomini migranti. Attraverso il racconto della sua storia S. porta all’attenzione degli studenti la situazione del suo Paese e racconta la sua esperienza di vita; il suo è un messaggio di forza e positività, specialmente per le ragazze.
Nei giorni scorsi, poco prima della conclusione dell’incontro on line, una studentessa ha messo davanti alla sua webcam un messaggio scritto su un pezzo di carta. Diceva “Grazie di cuore”. Uno ad uno tutti gli studenti della classe hanno iniziato a fare la stessa cosa. È stato un incontro molto speciale e commovente per tutti.
