Post-Secondary Education Students – Sagrado Corazón-Corazonistas School (Vitoria-Gasteiz)
A virtual encounter with youth involved in the Loiolaetxea Hospitality project was arranged by ALBOAN to share their personal experiences and knowledge on the issues of migration and refuge. On completion, the scholars have let us known about their views, which we will share in this series of three posts labeled “Virtual encounters”: learnings, discover what moves us and gratefulness.
Having got to know these youngsters’ stories in real life has been greatly appreciated by the majority since it has enabled them not to underestimate what they have.
We need to open our eyes to how lucky we were and we are. Not everybody is given equal opportunities as we have them.
I have learned to value the family more; at times, we prioritise or put other things first, and family must be foremost in our minds. When reviewing the testimonials I was shocked by the idea of getting out of here, to another country, far away from my family.
Having heard the testimonials, it made me realize how lucky we all are to have been born in a country without war or conflicts.
They are also mindful that migrants’ or refugees’ life is worse than they could ever have imagined.
They are forced to let go of everything and they go through many heart- suffering situations in order to reach a place where they are hoping to find a better life.
On arrival, their living conditions remain more complicated than we think.
I have become aware that they are also discriminated against when it comes to take up work, or even passing on the street, because of their physical features.
And they have gained an insight into how prejudice may influence our point of view and the way of perceiving reality.
I also noticed that those, who consider that they come to take the bread and the work from you, have got it completely the wrong way around; they just intend to take care of their family and make a decent living somewhere else.
The preconceptions prevalent in our society prevent us from seeing endeavour, readiness and willingness required by them to be able to rebuild their lives in a new, unfamiliar place (those, who, incidentally, have names and a whole lifetime, and who are more than just a number of people arriving to your country). Despite all odds (paperwork, licences, waiting times) they seek to make the best given the circumstances.
Consequently, the significance of getting to know the reality that goes beyond news, has been highlighted.
During the talk, I found that the situation is far worse off than the news cursorily reports, so, I have understood that if I am interested in what is happening in the real world, not only do I have to watch the news, I will also have to find out more on my own.
And telling us plainly about immigration, face-to-face.
And, they have been able to see what binds us together as individuals.
Most refugees, so does everybody else, have aspirations, hopes and dreams.

Serie “Compartimos el encuentro virtual”: Aprendizajes (1/3)
Alumnado de 1º Bachillerato – Colegio Sagrado Corazón-Corazonistas (Vitoria-Gasteiz).
Desde ALBOAN organizamos un encuentro virtual con jóvenes que participan en el proyecto de Hospitalidad de Loiolaetxea para que compartieran sus conocimientos sobre el tema de la migración y el refugio y sus experiencias personales. Después de este encuentro el alumnado nos ha hecho llegar sus valoraciones que compartiremos en esta serie de tres post “Compartimos el encuentro virtual”: aprendizajes, a qué nos mueve y agradecimientos.
La mayoría del alumnado valora muy positivamente haber podido conocer la historia de estos jóvenes en primera persona porque les ha ayudado a valorar mucho más lo que tienen.
Realmente tenemos que darnos cuenta de la suerte que hemos tenido y tenemos. No todo el mundo tiene las opciones que tenemos nosotros.
He aprendido a valorar más a la familia, a veces priorizamos o anteponemos otras cosas y la familia es lo más importante que tenemos. Cuando escuché los testimonios me impactó la idea de irme a otro país totalmente alejada de mi familia.
Después de oír los testimonios, me he vuelto a dar cuenta de la suerte que tenemos de haber nacido en un país sin problemas ni guerras.
También han sido conscientes de que la realidad de las personas que migran o huyen de sus casas es más dura de lo que imaginaban.
Tienen que dejar muchas cosas atrás y pasar mucho sufrimiento para llegar a otro lugar en el cual buscar una vida mejor.
Aun llegando a donde llegan su vida sigue siendo más complicada de lo que creemos.
Me he dado cuenta de lo discriminados que son a la hora de buscar trabajo, o al pasar por la calle solo por el hecho de sus rasgos físicos.
Y de cómo los prejuicios pueden afectar nuestra opinión y forma de ver la realidad.
Me he dado cuenta también de que la gente que piensa que ellos vienen para quitarnos el trabajo están totalmente equivocados, ellos solamente quieren poder cuidar a su familia y tener una vida.
Los prejuicios marcados por la sociedad nos ciegan a la hora de ver el esfuerzo, disposición y voluntad que ponen estas personas (las cuales, por cierto, tienen nombre y apellidos y una vida entera, no son simples números que llegan a tu país) para reconstruir sus vidas en un sitio nuevo y desconocido. Pese a las adversidades (papeleo, permisos, tiempos de espera) intentan sacar lo mejor de la situación en la que se encuentran.
Por eso también han puesto en valor la importancia de conocer la realidad más allá de una noticia.
Durante la charla me dí cuenta de que la situación es bastante peor que cuando las explican por encima los informativos, entonces he aprendido que si te quieres informar de las cosas que pasan por el mundo, no solo tienes que ver los informativos, sino que también hay que investigar más por tu propia cuenta.
E informanos sobre la inmigración de forma directa, cara a cara.
Y han podido ver aquellas cosas que nos unen como personas.
La mayoría de los refugiados, al igual que todos nosotros, tienen metas, ilusiones y sueños.

Topaketa birtuala partekatuko dugu” seriea: Ikaskuntzak (1/3)
Batxilergoko 1. mailako ikasleak – Sagrado Corazón-Corazonistas ikastetxea (Vitoria-Gasteiz).
Alboanek topaketa birtual bat antolatu zuen Loiolaetxeko Hospitalitate-proiektuan parte hartzen duten gazteekin, migrazioari eta babeslekuari buruzko ezagutzak eta esperientzia pertsonalak partekatzeko. Topaketa honen ondoren, ikasleek beren balorazioak helarazi dizkigute, eta “topaketa birtuala partekatzen dugu” izeneko hiru post hauetan partekatuko ditugu: ikaskuntzak, zertara mugitzen gaituen eta eskerrak.
Ikasle gehienek oso positibotzat jotzen dute gazte horien historia lehen pertsonan ezagutu ahal izatea, duten hori askoz gehiago baloratzen lagundu dielako.
Garrantzitsua da jabetzea daukagun eta izan dugun zorteaz. Jende orok ez ditu guk ditugun aukerak.
Familia gehiago baloratzen ikasi dut, batzuetan beste gauza batzuk lehenesten ditugu eta familia da daukagun gauzarik garrantzitsuena. Testigantzak entzun nituenean, txundituta utzi ninduen nire familiarengandik guztiz urrun dagoen beste herrialde batera joateko ideiak.
Lekukotasunak entzun ondoren, berriro konturatu naiz nolako zortea dugun arazorik eta gerrarik gabeko herrialde batean jaio izanaz.
Era berean, konturatu dira beren etxeetatik migratzen edo ihes egiten duten pertsonen errealitatea uste zutena baino gogorragoa dela.
Gauza asko utzi behar dituzte atzean eta sufrimendu handia jasan behar dute beste leku batera iristeko, bizimodu hobea bilatzeko.
Iristen diren lekura iritsita ere, bere bizitza uste baino konplexuagoa izaten jarraitzen du.
Konturatu naiz zein diskriminatuak diren lana bilatzeko orduan, edo kaletik pasatzean, beren ezaugarri fisikoengatik bakarrik.
Eta aurreiritziek nola eragin diezaieketen gure iritziari eta errealitatea ikusteko moduari.
Konturatu naiz, baita ere, haiek lana kentzera datozela uste duen jendea erabat oker dagoela, haiek beren familia zaindu eta bizitza bat baino ez dute nahi.
Gizarteak markatutako aurreiritziek itsutu egiten gaituzte pertsona horiek beren bizitzak leku berri eta ezezagun batean berreraikitzeko egiten duten ahalegina, jarrera eta borondatea ikustean (pertsona horiek, bide batez, izen-abizenak eta bizitza osoa dituzte, ez dira zure herrialdera iristen diren zenbaki hutsak). Ezbeharrak gorabehera (paperak, baimenak, itxaronaldiak), dauden egoeratik onena ateratzen saiatzen dira.
Horregatik, errealitatea albiste batetik haratago ezagutzearen garrantzia ere nabarmendu dute.
Hitzorduan konturatu nintzen egoera askoz okerragoa dela albistegiek gainetik azaltzen dituztenean baino, orduan ikasi dut munduan gertatzen diren gauzen berri eman nahi baduzu, albistegiak ikusteaz gain, zure kabuz gehiago ikertu behar duzula.
Eta immigrazioari buruz zuzenean informatu, aurrez aurre.
Eta batzen gaituzten gauzak pertsona gisa ikusi ahal izan dituzte.
