“Out of sight, out of mind” in the context of this theme this proverb makes perfect sense. In 2015 this theme appeared in all media was reported, was spoken. At the moment the issue of refugees is almost unnoticed in our society. When I decided to enter this project I had the objective of waking my students to a reality, which exists, but which a large part of society wants to see forgotten.
The meeting, although virtual, with Mrs Ghalia Taki, was clearly positive. With immediate reflections on the day of the meeting, the students remained another 30 minutes in “classroom”, which in my experience, does not happen lightly or frequently. His attention was captured and his interest aroused. You have heard through the mouths of those who have the burden of experience, the difficulties that arise in our lives and which lead us to have to seek the full experience of the rights inherent in the human being in other places, to abandon a life, places of nostalgic memories, family members who exist only in memory. For some students it was difficult to understand how a country like Syria, economically and politically stable and which received many refugees quickly becomes the country from which many have to flee.
It was important for us, teachers and students, to realize that with the example of Mrs Ghalia Taki and her family, discrimination exists, it happens next to us, that it finds in our silence a powerful ally.

Professor Rosário: “longe da vista, longe do coração
“Longe da vista, longe do coração” no contexto desta temática este provérbio, faz todo o sentido. Em 2015 este tema aparecia em todos os meios de comunicação era noticiado, era falado. Neste momento a questão dos refugiados quase passa despercebida na nossa sociedade. Quando decidi entrar neste projeto tinha o objetivo de acordar os meus alunos para uma realidade, que existe, mas que grande parte da sociedade quer ver esquecida.
O encontro, ainda que virtual, com a Srª Ghalia Taki, foi claramente positivo. Com reflexos imediatos no dia do encontro, os alunos mantiveram-se mais 30 minutos em “sala de aula”, que pela minha experiência, não acontece de ânimo leve nem de forma frequente. A sua atenção foi captada e o seu interesse despertado. Ouviram pela boca de quem tem o ónus da experiência, as dificuldades que surgem nas nossas vidas e que nos levam a ter que procurar a plena vivência dos direitos inerentes ao ser humano em outras paragens, abandonar uma vida, locais de saudosas recordações, familiares que passam a existir apenas na memória. Para alguns alunos foi difícil perceber como é que um país como a Síria, economicamente e politicamente estável e que recebia muitos refugiados rapidamente passa a ser o país de onde muitos tem que fugir.
Importante para nós, professores e alunos, foi perceber que com o exemplo da Srª Ghalia Taki e da sua família, que a discriminação, existe, acontece ao nosso lado, que encontra no nosso silêncio um poderoso aliado.
