Hiba from Syria as an inspiration for Paola from Croatia during the time of online education and COVID-19

Croatian students are now for two months attending online schooling, in according to epidemiologic measures and situation regarding COVID-19 virus. One of the schools participating in project CHANGE, in the town of Sisak, adjusted to the new situation remarkably. Students involved in the programme are enjoying stimulating, interesting and interactive new ways of learning. One of the assignments for students was to share their impressions after watching a short video entitled “Hiba’s story”. The video is the story of a 10-year-old student who was forced to leave her home in Syria and is now living in Macedonia.

 

Paola, one of the students participating in CHANGE, wrote her first impressions of the video in which she stated that Hiba would be great counselor and motivator for children, as well as everyone working with her—as she knows what it’s like to go through hard times in life. Not judging others on any basis. In this, Paola sees her peer’s great potential in contributing to the society we live in.

 

Assignments encourage students to think critically about their position and feelings towards young refugees, developing more open and friendly attitudes towards them. For the student, she was so impacted she expressed her desire to meet Hiba but did not want to mention Hiba’s past—as to avoid the possibility of making her upset. Paola also wished to take on a more positive approach with Hiba’s Story; hoping to discuss their plans and dreams for the future, and to offer Hiba her friendship.

Hiba iz Sirije kao inspiracija Paoli iz Hrvatske u vrijeme on-line nastave i COVIDA-19

 

Učenici hrvatskih škola već dva mjeseca pohađaju prilagođenu on-line nastavu, sukladno epidemiološkim mjerama i situacijom s COVID-19 virusom. Jedna škola u Sisku, u kojoj provodimo CHANGE projekt, odlično se prilagodila novonastaloj situaciji. Učenici uključeni u aktivnosti provedbe on-line kurikuluma, vrlo su zadovoljni ovim interaktivnim, zanimljivim i poticajnim načinom učenja. Jedan od zadataka bio je i izraziti svoje dojmove nakon odgledanog filma „Hibina priča“ o 10-godišnjoj djevojčici Hibi iz Sirije koja je morala pobjeći iz svoga doma i sada živi u Makedoniji. Učenica Paola napisala je lijep rad u kojemu je zaključila da bi Hiba bila odlična savjetnica i motivator djeci koja su prošla sličnu situaciju, kao i svima onima koji s njima rade, budući da i sama najbolje zna kako je prolaziti kroz teška razdoblja života, dok pritom ne osuđuje druge s obzirom na njihovo stanje i njihovu nacionalnost. U tome Paola vidi veliki doprinos svojih vršnjaka izbjeglica društvu u kojem živimo. Paolu je ovaj radni zadatak potaknuo na promišljanje o položaju i osjećajima mladih izbjeglica, kao i na veću otvorenost i susretljivost. Paola je izrazila i želju da susretne Hibu. Pritom ju, kako kaže, ne bi rastužila pitanjima o prošlosti, već bi s njom razgovarala o željama i planovima za budućnost, pružajući joj prijateljstvo i utjehu!
